A day before Datuk Seri Najib Razak delivered his Presidential Speech in the UMNO 2017 General Assembly, he received calls from world Islamic leaders and among them is Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan to seek Malaysia stating their stance on Donald Trump’s announcement to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
It is thus an extreme provocation that is truly insulting.Consequently, realizing the Jerusalem issue involves the total interests of Muslims and including this nation, without delay, PM Najib took it to be discussed at the special UMNO Supreme Council meeting before he delivered his Presidential notes.
A Supreme Council meeting is normally held before the President delivers his speech to highlight and concede issues that should be presented in the Presidential Notes for UMNO General Assembly.
As the Jerusalem issue is to be taken seriously, UMNO supreme members agreed that PM Najib should address and thus include them in his Presidential speech thinking it is an important issue that needs to be debated and eventually made into the party’s official stance.
Such development proves that even a small country such as Malaysia with a population of around 32 million, we received recognition from other Muslim countries including the great powers of West Asia, Turkey to jointly push President Trump’s decision.
In this regard, Prime Minister Najib’s action is accurate. As UMNO is the backbone of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government and Malaysia has been one of the countries that champion the issue of the interests of Islam since time immemorial.
If there are malicious allegation from the opposition bloc and in particular Pakatan Harapan, trying to associate UMNO’s resistance against the United States (US) recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, as a means to gain political support from PAS, apparently this has strayed far from the actual struggle for Islam.
In spite of the fact that between UMNO and PAS, there are differences in political views, the stance and tone that PM Najib took to OIC is the core of the interests of the ummah and Islamic creeds, as well as the future of humanity across the globe.
Evidently, it is Pakatan Harapan that is trying to turn this issue into their cheap political gimmick and the so-called their Muslim leaders have terribly failed to see the impact on UMNO’s concerned.
Should PM Najib and UMNO reacted otherwise and kept silent, this may not only initiate the elongated tense in Gaza, it could once again start a war, simultaneously, hostility is capable of spreading throughout not only in the Middle-East but across the globe too.
Is Pakatan Harapan bearing the same stance as the US government where they are urging everyone to fight against terrorism but at the same time, they are fueling to the brisk flames of fire?
