The gospel truth which will be alarming to the oppositions and in particular in Pakatan Harapan, that Barisan Nasional has preceded the opposition popularity in the social media.
Based on recent studies by Politweet, 5.8 million social media users and in particular in Facebook (FB), aged 21 years and above, they have shown increased interests in the ruling party Barisan Nasional (BN) compared to only 3.1 million users who have shown interests in the opposition and Pakatan Harapan. Politweet is a research firm that conducts studies on media social in Malaysia.
In its July 2017 research, Politweet revealed that about 51.6% or 3.3 million Facebookers are of the age at 21 years or so and they are exclusively the Barisan Nasional followers if compared to 9.4% or 600,000 opposition followers whereas the balance for about 39.1% or 2.5 million have shown interests to both the ruling and opposition parties.
Not only that, according to the independent study, it also discovered that the tendency of young voters in Malaysia to be more interested in UMNO with a total of 4.4 million followers (68.8%), PKR 1.8 million (28.1%), DAP 1.3 million (20.3%), PAS 950,000 (14.8%), MCA 740,000 (11.6%), Gerakan 150,000 (2.34%) and MIC with 81,000 (1.3%).
In fact, not only that, the independent study also finds out that the young voters’ tendencies in Malaysia are now moving towards interests for UMNO instead.
Based on the Election Commission (EC) first-quarter 2016 reports, the number of young voters registered for the GE14 is about 5.1 million with a breakdown where the young voters between the ages of 21-29 reached up to 1.9 million while those of the ages of 30-39, they are close to 3.2 million voters. These 5.1 million registered voters comprise of 37.5% from total voters of 13.6 million waiting for the soon coming GE14.
If what is reported by Politweet, this means that 5.8 million from 13.6 million voters who have shown interest for BN and they are 42.64% as compared to interests for the oppositions, they are only 3.1 millions for Pakatan Harapan which will only field 22.7%.
Last week, another global social media analytics company called Socialbakers, they have listed five pro-BN pages in Facebook with interest in politics as the “Fastest-Growing Politics Pages in Malaysia”. They are Zahid Hamidi Fan Page with an increased of 44,273 fans, followed by MCA has added 2,257 fans, Friends Of Barisan Nasional added 2,240 fans, Irmohizam Ibrahim with additional of 805 fans and Noh Omar’s increased in726 fans.
On the other hand, Pakatan Harapan popularity has shown a sharp drop of 7% in youngsters’ interests.
Ironically, on July 22, 2016, Politweet found 10,627 twitter users prefer Lim Guan Eng to be investigated and there are those who criticized for his graft scandal. This clearly shows that young people nowadays are beginning to check and screen news or messages delivered by Pakatan Harapan leaders.
The impact from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s sincere relentless efforts to the rakyat, it is no wonder that in a recent survey in July that Politweet shown the 5% increase support for Barisan Nasional and in particular they are from the youngsters.
